Meet Linda Cox, Director of Gift Planning from MUSC!
Employed by: Medical University of South Carolina
Job title: Director of Gift Planning and also the Interim Director of Alumni Affairs
How long have you been a member of the Lowcountry Chapter of AFP? 4 years, since I moved to Charleston. However, I have been a member of AFP for over 20 years.
How has being a member of AFP helped you in your work? AFP has been a great way to meet others in our field. At one meeting, they introduced new members and I actually called them after the meeting and we hired them.
What advice would you offer to new AFP members? To attend as many meetings as possible and participate in the learning opportunities that they provide.
Something my AFP colleagues might not know about me is: I grew up in a small town with limited things to do so at the age of 15 was the Indiana State Bowling Champion. By the way, I'm not very good at bowling now.
What is the one thing you want people outside of the fundraising profession to know about what you do? We like to say that we are the keeper of the best stories as we help people make gifts that they always wanted to make but just didn't know how to make such a gift. It is humbling to hear the stories behind donor's gifts and an honor to help them fulfill their philanthropic dreams.
