Job title: Assistant Dean for Development, School of Humanities and Social Sciences
Employed by: The Citadel Foundation
What I like most about my job: Making possible what is generally expected to be impossible!
As Vice President of Programs, my goals are to: Partner with the Professional Development Chair to provide programs and training opportunities that bring value to AFP membership. We heard members and nonmembers requesting something other than lunches and the tried-and-true speakers, so this year we are offering breakfasts and webinars. We brought in experts from North Carolina and Florida from a variety of industries to apply new ideas to philanthropy. Stay tuned for a professional development day in the works!
What I enjoy about serving on the board: I enjoy the opportunity to serve the interests of those working hard to serve the betterment of our community and the world. That not only includes my fellow development professionals, but our donors and corporate partners as well!
I joined the Lowcountry Chapter of AFP because: It was a great networking opportunity. As it turned out, I met my mentor on the board. She was the one who recommended I apply for my current position and recommended me for the job!
I'm originally from: London, England
My hobbies include: Rowing, traveling (I've been to 44 countries and counting), photography
Something my AFP colleagues might not know about me is: I have an English accent. I hide it away, but it comes as naturally to me as my American accent does.
If I had one week to do anything I wanted, I would: Hike Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It's the highest mountain in Africa at a little over 19,000 ft. and can be trekked in six or seven days.
