The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Director of Development located in Charleston, SC.
Responsible to the Corps Officer for supportive service to the Command programs through the Development Department. The Development Department is responsible for the cultivation of donor’s to ensure continued growth in The Salvation Army through donor development and relations, grants and foundations, newsletter, mail appeals, special events and other solicitations. Assist in public relations
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and philosophy.
Knowledge of Christian theology and The Salvation Army doctrine.
Knowledge of acceptable fundraising methods and strategies.
Ability to prepare effective printed materials for educational and promotional purposes.
Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate fundraising events including direct mail campaigns.
Ability to administer a budget and monitors expenditures for compliance with the same.
Ability to prepare and maintains reports in an accurate and complete manner.
Ability to research funding sources and prepare grant proposals.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications or a related field,
Five years of experience performing fundraising and public relation functions through all forms of media
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television.
Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc.
Duties are usually perform seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
